Photoshop Tutorial 4

28/02/2013

Today, we did another demo with our tutor, we focused on doing placing beards on people, to which we used several different methods to create a beard on our tutor dan. We used methods like radial blur and Gaussian blur, to add effects on the painted beard to make it seem more authentic.

Before doing this those, we were tasked with adding a moustache to a random man, which is shown below, my attempt is on the left whereas the tutors attempt is on the right.

Artists/Apple Demo

14/02/2013

We've been tasked to find an artist we like and create an image inspired by the artist.

The Artist I have chosen to research and design an image inspired by, is an artist called Nicholas Bouvier.

Nicholas Bouvier is a one of the best artists around in the game world, He's worked on Halo 4, Images for borderlands, and Images for Assassins creed. His artwork is popular and famous for its ability to give off incredible feeling of the scenario thats been done, as well as beautifully landscaped and drawn areas of the world for that game. It really gives off a realistic feel to the game.

Here's a link to his biography and some of his work.

I'd like to try and attempt an image inspired by his Drawings and Artwork.

We also did an apple demo today turning an apple into a cube, in my first attempt, I tried to turn the apple into the cube but I didnt get very far or do very well.

We then did the actual demo and I found I wasnt liquifying the apple correctly around the cube, once I did this and managed to have it correctly, I then went on to make a line around the face of the apple, and select it, I then went to the apples core, and went to

Select>All

Once I did this I went back to the apple document, and then went into..

Edit>paste special>In to

This placed the face within the apple from there I was able to edit the face to make it look more real.

Photo Format's

7/02/2013

Today we've been tasked with finding and researching several different types of formats that you can use to save on through photo shop.

JPEG - JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Expert Group as that is the name of the committee that developed the format, JPEG images are a tye of compressed file format, which has a variable number for compression and is also not limited to a certain number of colour like GIF's are, therefore JPEG's are best for compressing images so if you see a good looking large image on the internet, you can most likely count that its a JPEG.

PNG - portable network graphics was created to improve upon and essentially replace the more common GIF file, its advantages consist of the fact it does not require a patent license, being platform independant and being able to display more than 256.

One of the biggest drawbacks for PNG is it does not support animation compatibility. but files are being worked on to try and make PNG animation compatible such as the upcoming APNG file.

PSD - Photoshop Document's or PSD is the format used to save photoshopped files, reason being is if you save it as a PSD you can reopen it to continue editing your image.

GIF - Graphics Interchange Format's are compressed image files to reduce transfer time its also capable of being combined with multiple images to create animations.

For example....

GIF files tend to be the most popular format when it comes to logo's and internet website related images as images containing GIF text tend to be alot more clearer and detailed compared to JPEG's as sometimes JPEG's can be a little unclear.

TIFF - The Tagged Image File Format, is a file format for storing images, popular among graphic artists, the publishing industry, and both amateur and professional photographers in general. as of 2009 it is under control of adobe systems, originally created by a company called Aldus for use with desktop publishing, the TIFF format is widely supported by image manipulation programs along with publishing and page layout programs. TIFF's are popular due to the fact that because it stores data without losing a single piece of data, unlike various other formats. TIFF's are similar to both PNG and JPEG's just it saves more data for when its next opened.
